Urinary tract infections (urinary tract infections) are one of the most common health problems. They can occur in both sexes, but they occur more often in women precisely because of the anatomy of the female urinary system (the female urethra is shorter than in men, which makes it easier for bacteria to penetrate the bladder and other parts of the urinary system). By the term urinary infection we mean:
- urethritis (infection of the urethra)
- cystitis (bladder infection)
- pyelonephritis (kidney infection)
- asymptomatic bacteriuria (the presence of bacteria in the urine without symptoms)
Asymptomatic bacteriuria and cystitis are the most common bacterial infections of the urinary tract. The most common causative agent is the bacterium Escherichia coli (E. Coli). E.Coli is a bacterium that normally lives in the human intestines. Under normal conditions, it does not cause infections, but in cases where it manages to “penetrate” the urinary system, it causes infections. This most often happens during sexual intercourse, during which a woman’s urethra is partially opened, and also due to improper wiping after defecation and/or urination. Other bacteria that can cause urinary infections are Klebsiella, Proteus Mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus agalactiae.
Bacterial Vaginosis
Bacterial vaginosis is the most widespread vaginal infection in women, which involves inflammation of the vagina characterized by impaired vaginal flora, i.e. a decrease in the number of lactobacilli and an increase in the amount of other microorganisms, primarily anaerobic and microaerophilic bacteria with the production of volatile amines and an increase in vaginal pH. The most common symptoms of vaginal infections are itching, burning and vaginal discharge and increased white discharge with a fishy smell (due to the production of amines). If vaginosis is not treated, complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, premature birth in pregnant women may develop. Vaginitis is considered a warning symptom to prevent the occurrence of such complications and should be treated in time.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
It belongs to the most common functional digestive disorders with the characteristic of appearing in any age group, including children and elderly people, but it is most often present in women. IBS is characterized by chronic abdominal pain, painful bloating and disturbed dynamics of bowel movements.
What do these conditions have in common?
Bacterial dysbiosis, or a disturbance in the relationship between good and bad bacteria, is one of the keys to the emergence of these disease states. Improper nutrition, stress and a weakened immune system contribute to bacterial dysbiosis.
How can we help each other?
Apart from the fact that we have to take care to eat healthy and reduce stress, it would be advisable to take probiotics and prebiotics, i.e. good bacteria and “food for good bacteria”.
Why Biotic Flora?
Biotic Flora is a formulation intended for women, it contains a combination of live cultures of LactoSpore (Bacillus coagulans), American cranberry, black elder, corn silk and a prebiotic with the addition of vitamin B6.
Bacillus coagulans is a type of probiotic (“good bacteria”) that can form spores during its reproductive life cycle, allowing it to remain dormant during conditions that would destroy other probiotics. For this reason, this strain can withstand extreme conditions such as high levels of stomach acid, which makes it particularly effective in relieving stomach ailments. Numerous studies have shown the effectiveness of the reduction and recurrence of symptoms of bacterial vaginosis, inflammation of the urinary bladder and irritable bowel syndrome during the use of Bacillus coagulans. American cranberry can be found in the form of tea, juice or dietary supplement. One of the most valuable ingredients of the American cranberry is proanthocyanidins, i.e. a group of flavonoids with an antioxidant effect. In the Biotic Flora preparation, the cranberry content is standardized to 10% proanthocyanidins, which prevent binding of uropathogenic E.coli compounds to host cells. The medicinal properties of black elder stem from the presence of large amounts of polyphenolic compounds, especially flavonols, phenolic acids or anthocyanins in the leaves, fruits and flowers. Black elderberry also contains significant amounts of vitamins of the B group, vitamin C and biotin. Berries contain anthocyanins, which have an immunological and anti-inflammatory role. Because of them, black elder is considered a good antioxidant. Also, black elderberry is increasingly used to reduce the symptoms of urinary infections, due to its potential ability to prevent bacteria from “sticking” to cells in the urinary system. Black elderberry improves gut health by providing prebiotics, a form of fiber, which feeds probiotics. Corn silk, popularly known as corn whiskers, has been used in the form of tea for years. Its positive effects have been known for a long time, and today it is considered an ally of women’s health and beauty. It is rich in plant fibers, proteins, potassium and manganese. Corn silk acts as an excellent natural diuretic. The greatest effectiveness has been shown in the treatment of urinary system disorders, primarily in infections, cystitis, as well as in the treatment of urinary bladder infections.
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are dietary fibers that have a positive effect on the intestinal microflora. FOS are not digested until they reach the large intestine, where they are digested by good bacteria that contribute to gut health. Vitamin B6 is water-soluble, which our body cannot synthesize, so we have to take it through food or nutritional supplements. It contributes to the normal function of the immune system, normal psychological function, reduction of fatigue and exhaustion, and energy production. Biotic Flora is a formulation that is specially designed to preserve the intestinal and vaginal flora and helps reduce the symptoms of urinary infections and irritable bowel syndrome.
